We’re not just growing trees, we’re growing the future forests, streetscapes, neighborhoods, and natural areas that will define the next generation of the Lowcountry.

Growing the Future of the Lowcountry

Lowcountry Forest exists to help our communities grow in a way that strengthens, rather than replaces, the natural systems that make this region unique.

We are building a nursery focused on native plants with an emphasis on local adaptation, ecological function, and long-term resilience. Whether restoring a natural area, planting a neighborhood street, creating a pollinator garden, or designing a stormwater landscape, we believe every project can contribute to a healthier, more connected Lowcountry.

Today, Lowcountry Forest is more than a nursery. It is a growing community effort dedicated to increasing the availability of locally adapted native trees and shrubs while encouraging thoughtful, ecologically responsible landscaping throughout the Charleston region. As the nursery grows, so does our commitment to education, restoration, and building a stronger connection between people and the landscapes they call home.

  • Today

Although our own nursery stock is still growing, Lowcountry Forest can already support restoration, landscaping, and conservation projects by sourcing high-quality native plants from trusted growers. We also provide guidance on plant selection, species diversity, and ecological suitability to help ensure each project is successful from the start.

  • Fall 2026

    SEED COLLECTION

This fall marks the beginning of our first seed collection season. Nursery staff will collect seed from carefully selected native trees and shrubs throughout the Lowcountry, documenting collection locations and preparing seed through cleaning and stratification for future propagation. This work lays the foundation for a nursery built on regional genetics and long-term ecological value.

  • Spring 2027

    GROWING THE NEXT GENERATION

During the spring growing season, Lowcountry Forest will begin potting bare root native trees and shrubs grown from southern coastal seed sources. This allows us to establish healthy nursery stock while locally collected seed continues through its natural propagation cycle. Every plant moved into production represents another step toward a nursery rooted in the ecology of the Lowcountry.

  • Fall 2027

    OUR FIRST CROP

By fall 2027, Lowcountry Forest will offer its first trees and shrubs grown through our own nursery program. These plants will represent the beginning of a long-term commitment to providing locally adapted native plant material for restoration projects, urban landscapes, conservation organizations, municipalities, and homeowners throughout the Charleston area.
